Setup & care guide
Five minutes to set up, five minutes a year to look after.
Setup video (60–90 s): unbox, prime the filters, stack the chambers, first pour
Watch: setup in under 5 minutes
From box to first pour: prime, fit, stack and fill.
Before you start
- Choose a level, stable spot out of direct sunlight, with a few inches of clearance above the lid for refilling.
- Unpack the glass carefully and check every piece. If anything arrived damaged, email a photo to help@aquelia.com within 7 days and we'll replace it free.
- Wash the chambers and lid in warm, soapy water and rinse well.
Setup in five steps
- Prime the filters. Priming pushes trapped air out of the carbon so water can flow. Follow the priming instructions in the guide in your box, running cold tap water through each element until it is evenly saturated.
- Fit the filters. Insert both elements through the holes in the base of the upper chamber and fasten them hand-tight.
- Fit the spigot to the lower chamber, hand-tight, so the lever faces forward.
- Stack the chambers. Set the lower chamber in place (on the Walnut Stand if you have one), then rest the upper chamber on the glass collar.
- Fill and wait. Fill the upper chamber with cold tap water and put the lid on. Discard the first full chamber of filtered water. After that, it's ready to drink.
Everyday use
- Top up the upper chamber whenever the lower one is running low. Morning and evening suits most households.
- Use cold, fresh water only. Never pour hot water into the glass.
- Keep it out of direct sunlight to discourage algae.
Cleaning the filters
About once a year, or whenever flow slows noticeably:
- Empty both chambers and remove the filters.
- Scrub each element lightly under running water with a plain, soap-free scouring pad, just enough to lift the surface layer.
- Re-prime the elements, refit them and refill.
When water no longer flows after cleaning (typically after about 6,000 gallons per set), it's time for replacement filters.
Cleaning the glass
Wash the chambers and lid by hand in warm, soapy water as needed, about once a year for most homes, and rinse thoroughly. The glass is handmade, so keep it out of the dishwasher and avoid sudden temperature changes.
Storing filters
- Up to two weeks: seal the elements in a bag and keep them in the fridge. Never freeze them.
- Longer: let them air-dry completely over several days, then seal them airtight. Fully dry filters keep indefinitely.
Going away
- Up to 3 weeks: leave Aquelia as it is.
- A month or more: remove the lid and upper chamber, empty both chambers and turn them upside down to dry. Refill when you're home.
